It’s October 31.  It’s Halloween.  Have a happy one.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner.

Major equipment problem for The Radio

Well, the transmitter is currently in need of repair. As I was adjusting the variable capacitor, which allows the transmitter to lock onto a frequency, I smelled something burning and the transmitter began to smoke. This came at a bad time, because I was ready to play some music for the people of GC.

Kenny sent an e-mail to Veronica asking if they knew approximately how much this would cost for them to fix. I’m hoping not much. I guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

It appears Granite City will be without a commercial free radio station for at least another month.

“News” program

My video production class is now working on the final project, which is a 25 to 30 minute news program.  The class decided it should be funny and like The Today Show.  I was chosen as the lead male anchor, so I have to write and deliver a few reader stories, as well as do transitions from scene to scene.

This is going to require a lot of work, and I’ll be balancing several papers and tests along with it.  I’ve started writing some of my readers, or at least some that I might use.  I think I’ll do a mix of current events and completely fake news, like The Onion does at times.

I think my first reader will be about Southern Illinois University Edwardsville being the first college in the nation to allow the enrollment of Yetis.

Finished my commercial

I was assigned a 30-second commercial for my video production class several weeks ago, but I finally got around to filming it last week and I finished editing on Avid earlier today.  It’s an ad for Wal-Mart Supercenters.  It’s just me doing various things that a bored person might do, with the last shot of me diving face first into my couch and then just laying there for a few seconds.  Then the screen goes white and the the text says “Bored?”  The text then changes to “Wal-Mart Supercenters are Open 24 Hours.”  Then it goes to a Wal-Mart logo, the “Always” slogan, and the web address.  Nothing great or fancy, but kind of funny (at least the people who saw it while I was editing said so) and at least I got it done.

Oh yeah.  The music the whole time is the last thirty seconds of Randy Newman’s Maybe I’m Doing It Wrong.

Yesterday I went to Technisonic Studios on a field trip.  It seems like a very interesting place to work, and I’m going to seriously consider it for my internship.  I would love to work with those audio and video guys there.  I don’t really have to worry about an internship until the summer, so there is no rush for anything right now.  School is enough.

Internet addiction

In about one hour I should be half way through a speech on Internet addiction in my MC452 class.  I know the material well, so I should do great on it.  Speaking in front of people doesn’t bother me because I just adopt the attitude that I don’t care what the audience thinks.  This technique may sound a bit cocky, but it works wonders.  I’ve got a few stories I can throw in there to help people relate to the topic, so I don’t believe this will be a typical boring speech that people are expecting.

Sometime within the next few days I plan on doing a few changes to the Gluthole sidebar, possibly even adjusting the header of the site a bit, as it doesn’t display properly for people who are using the Opera browser.  This isn’t Opera’s fault, it’s mine, and I had better get it together because Opera’s following has been growing ever since they released version 8 for free.

Fast change

A guy tried to fast change me at work today. That is when you try and confuse a cashier into giving you more money than they should. I’m not 100% sure, but it looks like I got him for $50. It is possible I fast changed a fast changer. I’ll find out for sure later today. I go back in at 1:00pm and work until 5:00pm. I’ll tell the whole story later.

One less paper to worry about

I just finished a book report for my New Media Technologies class.  I have been putting this thing off forever, but I finally started it and finished it tonight.  I am a machine.  The 20-minute presentation about the book is on Monday, but that shouldn’t be a problem.  Only three papers left for the rest of the semester.  Now it’s time for bed.
