Gone… all gone

And that’s that.  My 300GB Seagate hard drive that held all of my music and video files is no more.  It is corrupt and unreadable.  I’ve tried several programs to salvage the data, but no luck.  I could spend some money to have the data professionally retrieved, but that would cost me at least $500.  I don’t feel like spending $500 on that.

I don’t even care that much about the video files.  What I care about is the music.  We won’t go into specifics on how I got all of it, but about 120GB of that hard drive was music.  I’ve only got about 8 or so gigabytes of that backed up.

Luckily, I didn’t lose any pictures of family and friends.  Those were stored on another hard drive, plus most of those were backed up onto DVD.

I’m going to buy a new hard drive now, I’m just not sure if I want a 400GB or a 500GB.  I’ll find a deal and go for it.  Then I’m going to buy some dual-layer DVD+Rs for backing up any music I acquire from here on out.  I never did it before because of the sheer size of my collection and the fact that I didn’t want to archive it all onto a ton of DVDs.  While I’ll still be backing it up onto DVDs, at least I won’t have as many with dual-layered media.

I feel like crying.

The only good thing today was that I got some free food.  Mark Klose from K-Hits hooked me up with a free burger and fries meal from the Hard Rock Cafe today at Emmis.  It was delicious.  Mark Klose is the man.

Huzzah Valley

The camping trip at Huzzah Valley in Steelville, Missouri was a great time.  The weather on the day of the float was nearly perfect.

I got some more good use out of my $50 Woolrich straw hat.  I may have overpaid at $50, but I’ve had it over a year now, and even though I haven’t had it on very much, it seems to hold up well on the days that I do wear it.  It stays on my head for as much as 8 hours on those days, and it still looks brand new.  Not too shabby for a straw hat.

Jessie had never been camping, and she liked it.  Or at least she says she did.  Sleeping was a bit uncomfortable due to the humidity, but it could have been worse.

Anyway, I’m keeping this short.  I can’t wait to do it again next year, or possibly sooner.
